Leslie Knope has said it best, “February 14th is about celebrating romance. But February 13th, Galentine's Day, is about celebrating lady friends. It's wonderful and should be a national holiday.”
We couldn’t agree more! One of my favorite “Galentine’s Day” memories was with my mom and sisters, we ordered Red Robin to-go, picked up two sweet treats a piece, brought our mattresses out to the living room and watched rom-coms like “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”or“Letters to Juliet''all night. We meanwhile banished my dad and brother to other parts of the house so we could spend the night talking and giggling without interruption. It’s a tradition that we did for a few years while all of the kids were still at home, and one that I hope to have with my daughters in the future.
With that being said, Galentine’s Day is just around the corner, so to make it extra special with all your girls, whether that’s a friend, your sister, daughter, niece, or other female figure in your life, here are some activities that you can do to celebrate while incorporating each other’s love languages!
Words of Affirmation
- Sending letters to each other
Something a little old school but filled with sentiments of the present, it’s a sure fire way to light up someone’s day!
- Hiding notes in each other’s cars, work place, or apartment
A scavenger hunt for sticky notes from your best friend? Yes please!
- Hit send on a meaningful text to each other
Intentional messaging is some of the most impactful ways to let someone know you’re thinking of them. And what’s better is that you can do this year round.
- Be the hype woman on her most recent Instagram post
“YASSS Girl!!!!🔥👏🏻🙌🏻 I’m so proud of you!!”
- Do an at home mani-pedi with each other
Challenge each other’s mani-pedi art skills or enjoy a soothing foot massage and relax, this time was meant for you to bond.
- Braiding each other’s hair while doing at home facials
Channel your inner child and try all the braiding techniques from Pinterest while not cracking your clay mask.
- Giving each other a shoulder massage while watching a Rom-Com
It’s a win-win, a fun movie together and switching off with a shoulder massage is sure to be a good night together.
- Cozy up together with a fuzzy blanket and a warm beverage while you catch up on life
There’s nothing like those moments of closeness where we share the deep, personal things followed by a bout of laughter in the safety of a blanket.
Spending Quality Time
- Girls Only Vacay
Haven’t done that college road trip you and your friends have been talking about forever? Maybe now is the time to put those plans into action!
- Night out on the town together
Live close together? Take the night to go on a shopping spree or hit a few clubs together for some fun memories.
- Fondue Night
A fondue night can be equally fun, having fun dipping your favorite foods in cheese or chocolate while reminiscing or filling each other in on the latest gossip.
- Chick-flick Marathon
You can never go wrong with a Matthew McConaughey chick-flick or a Nicholas Sparks based movie that is sure to get all of you sniffling while commenting on the movie plot.
Acts of Service
- Making brunch for each other
For some of your gal pals who seem to always be busy, come together and bring a part of brunch to help alleviate stress for her and have fun sharing a meal together.
- Charcuterie Night- You bring the meat
Similarly bring a different themed charcuterie board per person to share! One person brings the sweet & salty, another movie snacks, another a traditional board, a color themed board, and so many more!
- Do an errand date- grocery shopping, doing returns, laundry and netflix, etc together
Have you wanted to spend the extra time with a friend but have a million things to do? Well let them help you! Real friends don’t let friends do chores alone.
- Plan a night to watch their kids for them while they go on a date or have some alone time
For your mom friends, extend an invite to be the cool “auntie” and watch the kids so mom can have some much needed alone time or for them to get out with their significant other without having to worry about finding a babysitter.
- Send her a Venmo for a warm drink on you
Send $5 so she can grab her favorite drink is a small reminder for her that you are thinking of her and an added perk to her day.
- A book that she’s always wanted to read
Has she been “meaning to read that book” for ages but can’t seem to get ahold of a copy? Instant meaningful gift! Whether it’s an audio book, one from Amazon or just a podcast from Spotify, be sure to hook her up with some good literature.
- Do a gift swap or Secret Valentines gift exchange
While we don’t have our childhood Valentine’s Day boxes made up, we do encourage a cute gift swap with all of your friend’s favorite things.
- Give her a framed picture of a favorite memory together
A sweet memento from that hike you went on together or a collage of pictures through the ages is guaranteed to bring you closer. A thoughtful gift can oftentimes be the most powerful way to show you care in a friendship.
These are just a few ideas gathered from the Brightbox Team, but there are so many more ways to celebrate your gal pals, and it doesn’t have to just be on Galentine’s Day! We like to think everyday is a good day to celebrate the people in your life, who have been there for the highs and lows of life.
Friends are too far away to do something in person? Send a Valentine’s Day themed Brightboxwith a sweet video message inviting them to a movie over Facetime, or build your own box with all of her favorite things to let her know you were thinking of her.
